Landing Hong Kong

I’m just catching up on posting some old photos taken from the jumpseat on UAL895 with Captain Ray Garavito. We were late into HKG after having diverted to Beijing 6 hours earlier account of a scheduled splash down(on land) of some Chinese astronauts. These may have been posted previously.

Flying to Los Cabos

I was on my annual route qual(qualification) flight in June 2014 and elected to go to Los Cabos, Mexico. The runway at SJD is located on the very edge of a dry riverbed. After landing and using the full length of the runway for landing, exiting at the far end, we had to wait about 10 minutes on the taxiway back to the terminal for other arriving flights. We had to back taxi on the runway to get to the terminal due to construction that blocked the only taxiway in from the south end of the runway. It was HOT as we stepped off the plane, very similar to the heat in Texas during the summer.

Having traveled to Japan about 60 times(having lost count), it seems like anytime I go to Mexico, I want to speak Japanese to the locals as they look similar in height and hair color of the Japanese. Unsure of how to get an economical ride to the Hilton Los Cabos Beach and Golf Resort, my layover hotel, and not wanting to pay the $85 the taxi driver was quoting me, I went to the United Airlines arrival counter and asked the ticket agent how I could get to my hotel. She pointed out the door and there was a purple bus which was like a city bus of sorts. It cost a total of 650 pesos which is about $5USD. We hopped on and it took at least 30 minutes, but I wasn’t counting, to come to the stop to get off in front of the Hilton. You must pay attention to the stops the bus makes. Sitting on the left side of the bus to watch for the hotel is a necessity otherwise you might find yourself in a location that is not your hotel.

AAL1377 out of ORD

This was AAL1377 departing ORD on March 13, 2012 about 3:30pm. Very nice angle I think. The winglets on the B767 turn an otherwise boring looking airplane into a nice sleek jet that looks like it belongs in the air.

Say what you want about FWZ.  It has it’s good points and it has some weak spots however it has saved United Airlines untold of millions of dollars account of the hard work of a dedicated group of Flight Dispatchers and administrators.
